I am the Principal of Jawahar English Medium School, Pune. Located in the heart of the city, the noise of erratic traffic, religious processions and other activities are part of the daily routine for this school. Being in an area that is extremely crowded, the school is the only place that offers some breathing space for its students.

I have been working in this profession for over 30 years now. I enjoy getting lost in conversations with my students, getting to the root of their problems and building road-maps with them. I believe that teaching is the only profession that is instrumental in bringing about a change in society. My team of well-trained and devoted teachers and I try our level best to provide students with exposure to resources like books, activities and real-life experiences - to show them the world that lies outside the walls of their communities. Having uneducated parents who are involved in menial jobs, this is a difficult task.

Exposure to different resources is a prerequisite to bring out the best in every child, so as a teacher I feel I need to provide my kids with a lot of reading material. Books not only help to improve one’s reading and comprehension skills but also inculcate the habit of being calm, composed and at the same time boost imagination.

I see books as an instrument to correct behavioral problems in my students, and also improve their reading levels and understanding of science. Pratham’s Library-in-a-classroom will provide attractive, illustrated storybooks of differentiated levels to my classroom, and your contribution will mean the world to me and my students!

Your donation will fund a program which helps teachers effectively use their new solutions in the classroom. Program support includes weekly calls, observations, feedback and troubleshooting advice.
