Capturing Instant Feedback with piCards

This year, 16 motivated teachers chose to use piCards, a relatively new digital tool to solve their most urgent need in the classroom. piCards is a mobile application which helps teachers record feedback real-time using just QR codes and a smartphone. Teachers use it to check for understanding while teaching, conducting assessments, recording feedback and even taking attendance. Tasks which usually take a lot of time and effort can be completed in minutes giving teachers time to plan for remediation and reteaching.

Kareem Unnisa, Aliya Begum and Nishat Fatima have been using piCards since 7 months in their classrooms. Here’s how they have benefited.

Tracking Progress

Because of using piCards, I am able to track the progress of each child. I am now planning to use different strategies for the slow-learners in my classroom. Since each question is a multiple choice quiz, children are encouraged to start thinking about the question asked and also attempt to answer it.

Effective Parent Teacher Meetings

I used the data piCards gave us in a recently organised parent-teacher meeting. I was able to highlight the mathematical concepts that require reteaching, and stress on the importance of attendance to those parents whose children showed a low attendance consistently.

Checking for Understanding

I used piCards to check whether my students had understood what I had taught them about fractions. I found that the students had not actually understood the concept. When asked questions on the same topic by slightly changing the values, most of the students gave wrong answers. I was able to do this in 10 minutes with piCards.
